The Mayor of Waltham Forest, Cllr Terry Wheeler, visited the mural at Hatch Lane with local ward Cllr Marion Fitzgerald, representatives from Friday Hill TMO and Forest Recycling Project, and staff and children of Longshaw Primary School on 12th October.
The idea for the project followed an invitation to local residents to the reopening of the award-winning William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow. The visit inspired the TMO Board to celebrate the work of William Morris and transform the wall on the Hatch Lane shops on the corner of Ashwood Road.
Children at Longshaw Primary School had the opportunity to visit the gallery and come up with some designs. Work on the final design followed work with the artists from the Forest Recycling Project and local consultation. The mural was funded by a grant, secured by the Friday Hill TMO, from the Ward forum. The mural was painted with reclaimed paint.
“It was so exciting to be part of this project. We had a great time at the William Morris Gallery and it makes us proud to see our work on the wall” children involved in producing the artwork told the TMO on completing the project.
